Santa Fe, New Mexico (May 2017)
While spending a week in the mountains overlooking San Diego, we had a chance to visit Vineyard Grant James in Ramona, California (if you decide to visit, they are only open Friday – Sunday). About an hour out of San Diego, it is worth the drive. We had a standard tasting flight that included a…
La Fleur d’Amelie, 2014 Bordeaux Rose. A blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc.
Trying to beat the heat by sipping The Barista (8.5% ABV) from Clown Shoes Beer (Ipswich MA), a breakfast brown ale brewed with espresso and oatmeal. Malty with nice coffee flavors. Highly recommended. And thanks to Grant & Trish for the great father’s day gift of nice beers.
Had a chance to try a new white blend on our Southwest flight from San Antonio today. The Whistling Thorn Chenin Blanc and Chardonay blend (South Africa) was ok, would be best very cold on the patio or by the pool…in a proper glass.
We are in Helen, Georgia, celebrating 41 years of marriage and enjoying a bottle of a 2015 Cabernet Franc from The Cottage Vineyard & Winery (Cleveland, Georgia). My wife and I both agree, The Cottage produces some of the best wines in the state.
Perfect Arizona weather for sipping rum on the patio. Sipping Ron Zacapa Centenario (Guatemala)

A “bachelor’s” Saturday morning breakfast – chicken salsa verde, tortillas and coffee.
Sipping on The Epilogue, a 2012 Petite Sirah dessert wine (18% ABV) from Lawrence Dunham Vineyards. 100% estate grown in Cochise County, Pearce, Arizona. Aged for 40 months, 50% in new American Minnesota oak barrels and 50% natural oak barrels.
Stopped in at what proclaims to be “the best chicken in Yuma.” Well I didn’t have the regular chicken, I went with chicken livers with hush puppies and cole slaw on the side. Delicious
When travelling west on Interstate 8, heading for California, a must stop is Dateland, about 60 miles east of Yuma. You can try a date milk shake if you are so inclined but at the very least, try the free date samples.
